I wish I wasn't so hungry - we dug in before I took any pictures. We had a reservation but had to wait about 15 minutes for our table. I was surprised at how tiny you hr place. It was nicely decorated and the staff was very friendly. The place is tiny but the food is really good s d woth the wait.
Visited hank's for brunch with a couple of friends. Top notch food quality and service. Surprisingly, the restaurant had ample room for seating with zero wait time. We received our meals within 15 minutes of arrival. Enjoyed every moment
Wow! I sure am kicking myself for not coming here sooner! I've lived on the Hill for over a decade now and I'm ashamed to admit last night was my first time having a meal at Hank's. I always saw it was packed with people and just assumed it was a place for oyster lovers only. I still haven't had a good oyster experience (I'm hoping my tastes continue to change as I get older and one day I may enjoy them...) but I was surprised to see such a variety of other items on the menu. The friend I went to dinner with picked this spot and told me all the good drinks and dishes they've had in the past. We got a table toward the back of the restaurant, but next visit I definitely want to take advantage of the happy hour deals at the bar! Our waitress was friendly and very attentive, making sure we had everything we needed and was quick with the refills. My friend sampled all the oysters while I chose the shrimp po' boy. And my goodness what a good choice! Thin, crispy, hot fries, and juicy and crisp fried shrimps atop a bed of coleslaw on a warm, soft buttered roll. Yum yum yum, that is what dreams are made of! The beer variety was impressive too and I enjoyed a couple of a new to me light lager. To end our meal we split a slice of key lime pie that also wowed me. Sweet, creamy, and tart with a nice thick graham cracker crust. I definitely would get another slice of this next visit. Very excited to come back to try more of the menu, but also try the exact same meal again!
Love this spot. My boyfriend and I were in DC for the weekend and were in the area for the eastern market. After that, we were looking for a spot to grab a quick bite. Found this gem and we saw it was happy hour! Perfect timing. The happy hour is only at the bar area, but that is okay because we enjoy sitting at the bar. The bar was pretty packed but we were able to grab 2 stools. We wanted some oysters, so we started off with the happy hour oysters ($1.50) and 2 pickle backs ($8). The pickle backs are just whiskey with pickle juice backs. They were surprisingly delicious and I don't even like pickles. The oysters were great, they actually gave 3 different varieties rather than 6 of the same one. I thought this was really nice because usually with happy hour, they give all of the same kind. The horseradish sauce that came with the oysters is a must, it adds the perfect level of spicy to it. We ordered 4 more oysters and another pickle back after ward. I Overall, a great happy hour snack! I highly recommend.
First off, I'm not a fan of oysters so there will be no more mention of them in this review. I had the burger. It was a pretty basic burger. Nothing fancy or special about it but it was a pleasing burger. I got it with crumbled bleu cheese, onions, lettuce and tomatoes. I don't usually put any condiments on my burgers but if it already comes with it, I'm not upset. This burger did not come with any and I did not add any. It was good as-is. I did ask for it medium well and it came out just as I ordered. This was a pre-CoViD (5/17/2019) outing that I just forgot to finish. I hope to make it back soon so I can verify this post as a current experience.
